Minimally Invasive Weight-Loss Surgery Improves Health of Morbidly Obese Teens
Teenagers' obesity-related medical complications improve just six months after laparoscopic gastric banding surgery, according to outcomes data presented this week. The preliminary results by physician-scientists from Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center were presented on June 17 at The Endocrine Society's 90th Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

Families Converge on Capitol Hill to Demonstrate Support for Children's Hospitals
Twenty-nine patient families from across the U.S. traveled to Washington, D.C., to speak with federal lawmakers about an issue of vital importance to them - the fate of children's health care and the essential role that children's hospitals play in the community. The meeting is part of national Family Advocacy Day, June 18 and 19, coordinated by the National Association of Children's Hospitals (N.A.C.H.). Also taking part in the event were Dorothy May Aragones, 8, who underwent three open-heart operations at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, and her mother Dorothy.

Our Children's Hospital is Only New York Hospital to Rank in All Clinical Areas by U.S.News & World Report
Our Children's Hospital is the only New York hospital to rank in all seven clinical areas reported in the 2008 U.S.News & World Report "America's Best Children's Hospitals" issue. The Hospital also ranks among the top 10 nationally in three categories: Neonatal Care (#4), Heart and Heart Surgery (#6) and Digestive Disorders (#8).The ranking accounts for NewYork-Presbyterian's two major centers for children's health care: Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian and the Komansky Center for Children's Health at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.

On November 8 and 9, 2008, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons will host Innovations in Pediatric Medicine, a national continuing medical education (CME) conference for pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, pediatric sub-specialists, and pediatric nurses. The conference, which will coincide with the Hospital's fifth anniversary, will review advances in genetics, stem cell therapy, infectious disease, cancer, and common childhood diseases.

$50 Million Gift to Expand and Enhance Emergency Care at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital
A $50 million gift from Alexandra and Steven Cohen will significantly expand and enhance emergency pediatric care at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. To be built in a brand-new facility, the Alexandra and Steven Cohen Pediatric Emergency Department will offer world-class emergency care to all children, including those from some of the poorest and most underserved areas of New York City. The gift is being made through the Steven A. and Alexandra M. Cohen Foundation, Inc.
