What to Bring
When you are planning for your child's admission, it is helpful to know what to bring.
To ensure that the admission process goes smoothly, please bring the following:
- a complete list of medications, both prescription and over-the-counter, your child is currently taking;
- a complete list of any communicable diseases your child has had or has been exposed to your child's immunization record;
- any reports your physician gave you to bring to the hospital;
- any relevant medical insurance information, including insurance cards, pre-certification, and an other documentation required by your insurer;
- photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport, of the parent or caretaker;
- Social Security cards for you and your child;
- a minimal amount of unnecessary personal items because we wouldn't want anything to get lost.
For your child, we recommend:
- your child's favorite blanket, stuffed animal and/or perhaps a CD or tape recorder with music your child loves;
- books and, if relevant for your child, schoolwork;
- a family picture to place by your child's bed;
- a list of telephone numbers where you can be reached at all times, which can be left at the nurses' station.
Optional: The Hospital provides the following but if your child would like his or her own clothes and toiletries:
- pajamas, slippers, a bathrobe and socks;
- toiletries (e.g, comb or brush, shampoo and soap, toothbrush and toothpaste);
Please keep in mind that there is limited space for personal belongings in patient rooms.
