Early-onset scoliosis, a rare condition found in children under the age of 8, can involve severe spinal deformity and compromise full development of the lungs. A multidisciplinary team at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is focusing on new treatment options, including growing rods and VEPTR (Vertical Expanding Prosthetic Titanium Ribs), that aim to increase the size of the thorax, and space available for the lungs, with the goal of improving lung function, quality of life, and longevity. View a webcast of a panel of experts from Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital discussing on early-onset scoliosis and the value of these treatment options.
