The Herbert Irving Division of Child and Adolescent Oncology is part of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only two National Cancer Institute-designated cancer centers in New York City.
The Herbert Irving Child and Adolescent Oncology Center has been awarded one of only 20 Phase I contracts granted by the National Cancer Institute through the auspices of the Children's Oncology Group. Our institution is the only so designated center caring for children and adolescents with cancer in the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut tri-state region.
Ours is the first pediatric oncology center in the United States to integrate complementary and alternative medicine into the treatment plan of every patient.
Members of the Herbert Irving Division of Child and Adolescent Oncology are national experts in the epidemiology and treatment of retinoblastoma. The Reese-Ellsworth staging system for this disease was developed at Columbia University in the 1960s.
