Chai Lifeline
Inspired by the idea that no family should have to shoulder the burden of a child's serious illness alone, Chai Lifeline was created in 1987 to provide needed health support services to Jewish children, their parents, siblings and their communities. The range of programs is extraordinary and each one is offered with genuine concern and devotion to the child and family. Among the services Chai Lifeline provides to patients and families of Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital are:
- Daily living support services, including transportation to appointments, respite for parents of hospitalized children, babysitters for siblings, kosher food and Shabbos meals;
- Community and in-school programs to help explain a child's illness and absence from school to schoolmates and friends;
- Social and recreational programs, including a medically supervised summer camp, respite programs, supportive weekend retreats, holiday programs and special events throughout the year;
- Religious support by Chai Lifeline's rabbinic staff, who provide comfort and advice, and volunteers, who will read the Megilla or blow the shofar for homebound or hospitalized patients and their families;
- Tutoring for homebound and hospitalized students and video-teleconferencing links to children's schools and classrooms; and
- Support groups and individual counseling for children, parents, and siblings.
