New Technology Provides Instantaneous Views of the Heart
(Feb 14, 2007) Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital has just put in place a new 64-slice Volume Computed Tomography (VCT) scanner, an advanced medical diagnostic tool that non-invasively images any organ in the body in one second and captures images of the heart in five heartbeats. The new scanning technology provides 64 separate rows of information simultaneously, allowing for a rapid and undistorted image of the heart. The VCT greatly improves the information available to physicians by providing superior resolution and shorter scanning times. This combination of speed and accuracy plays an important role in obtaining high quality images particularly when performing pediatric and cardiac procedures.
