Research
The maternal-fetal medicine specialists and neonatologists at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital have been conducting research for decades to improve maternal/fetal health.
The perinatal program at the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is the recipient of a Program Project Grant from the National Institutes of Health. The three projects that received funding focus, respectively, on investigating the following areas:
- laboratory investigation of the role fetal drug metabolism in determining fetal drug and metabolite concentrations;
- problems of prenatal exposure to nicotine through maternal smoking;
- possible influence of perinatal nutrition on long-term neurodevelopment and the risk for cardiovascular and metabolic disease in adult life;
- how changes in maternal diet and early postnatal nutrition can permanently alter physiology in later life.
