The Division of Anesthesiology works to ensure that anesthesia is administered in the safest manner possible using advanced technologies to carefully monitor our young patients during the operation or procedure, as well as throughout the recovery period.
Providing nearly 9,000 anesthetics last year for surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures, our division offers a child-friendly environment that enables parents to often be present for anesthetizing which helps to ease their child's anxiety.
The Pediatric Pain Management Service at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital, the first dedicated pediatric pain management center to be established in New York City more than 10 years ago, provides highly specialized pain treatment and symptom management for children of all ages from birth through adolescence.
In collaboration with the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit), the Division of Anesthesiology has instituted a Fast Track Recovery Room (Phase 2 Recovery Room) to facilitate a faster discharge for selected patients who have had minimally invasive and minor procedures.
The division has dedicated anesthesia transplant teams who have specific expertise in heart, liver, kidney, and small bowel transplantation, and also offers special expertise in pediatric cardiovascular anesthesia.
The Division of Anesthesiology is part of a rigorous quality assurance program and one of the founding members of a new quality assurance initiative sponsored by the Society of Pediatric Anesthesia.
