Trauma

Research

Specialists in the Pediatric Trauma Program of Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital are actively involved in several research projects and serve on numerous boards and committees, including the New York State Trauma Advisory Committee. A member of our staff serves as the New York State President of the American Trauma Society, and another works with the American Pediatric Surgical Association to study outcomes of patient visits of pediatric hospitals as compared to adult hospitals.

The Pediatric Trauma Program also participates in the American Pediatric Surgical Association (APSA) Department of Health and Human Services, Maternal and Child Health Bureau Partnership for Information and Communication Grant, "Partnership for Development and Dissemination of Outcome Measures for Injured Children."

The initial study was the APSA Trauma Committee's multi-institutional study on evidence-based guidelines for resource utilization in children with isolated spleen and liver injuries. The second outcomes initiative project examines children with pelvic fractures. This study analyzes the functional outcomes and quality of life in these patients after the fracture.
