Child Life Program
Our child life program helps children and families cope with the hospital experience. Certified child life specialists provide developmentally appropriate activities in the Herbert Irving Child & Adolescent Oncology Center. Hospital-based specialists also provide services for inpatients that include:
- Family and sibling support services
- Relaxation and coping techniques
- Strategies to help facilitate healthy development
- Activities to help the child understand procedures, tests and therapies
- Accompanying the child to tests and procedures
Valerie Fund Psychosocial Program
The Valerie Fund, a New Jersey-based organization that supports six pediatric hematology/oncology programs throughout the state, has selected the Herbert Irving Division of Child & Adolescent Oncology at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital as its first and only New York program. The Valerie Fund provides financial support for the comprehensive medical care of children with cancer and blood disorders. The Fund has positively impacted the lives of thousands of children since its inception in 1976.
The Valerie Fund Psychosocial Program at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital includes a child psychologist, child life specialists, social workers, and clergy. The program provides counseling, therapeutic play, pet therapy, music therapy, pastoral care, and the "Big Apple Circus Clown" program. Individual and age-appropriate group therapy is also available to patients, families, and siblings.
Hope & Heroes Children's Cancer Fund
The Hope & Heroes Children's Cancer Fund provides philanthropic assistance to the Herbert Irving Division of Child & Adolescent Oncology by supporting the development of new initiatives and research that is vital to continuing the fight against pediatric cancer. The Fund's mission is to provide the highest standard of pediatric care to infants and children diagnosed with cancer or serious blood disorders, and to promote scientific research dedicated to eradicating these diseases within a family-centered environment.
