Ronald McDonald House
This is "a home-away-from-home" for children with cancer and their families. It provides a temporary residence while the children are receiving their outpatient treatments. Family members can "sleep, eat, relax and find support among other families in similar situations."
Families are asked to make a donation ranging from $5 to $20 per day. If that is not possible for a family, then their stay is free.
The Ronald McDonald House in Manhattan is located at: 405 East 73rd Street (between First and York Avenues).
If you are interested in staying at the Ronald McDonald House, contact the Social Work Department at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital at (212) 342-0657.
Hospitality for Family and Friends
This organization is available to help out-of-town family and friends of hospitalized patients who are in need of a hotel room in Manhattan, but cannot afford the rates. They must first speak to the patient's social worker. He or she will then call Hospitality for Family and Friends, which has an arrangement with many fine hotels throughout the city who donate rooms for this purpose for one or two nights at most. There can only be one- to two-day advance notice for a room. The social worker connects the family to the organization so that arrangements can made.
