Psychoeducational Groups for Sexually Abused Girls – provides an environment where these girls can feel safe. Social workers lead the groups, which help these children improve their self-esteem and interpersonal skills so they can develop appropriate peer and adult relationships. The social workers also meet with parents throughout the course of the group to keep them informed of their children's progress and to enable them to discuss any concerns or questions they may have. This helps parents gain a clearer understanding of what their children have experienced and the impact on their young lives. The group offers the opportunity to enhance parent-child communication and trust.
Heart to Heart – a special program. Many members of the Social Work staff – as well as other Hospital staff – are specially trained to help parents answer the questions their children often pose when there is a sibling who is either very sick or who has died. The Hospital offers a special program – called "Heart to Heart" – that is designed to guide parents through this often difficult situation. During this one-hour session, a trained staff member meets with one or both parents.
