PS 128 Health Partnership and Turn 2 Us Program
In collaboration with PS 128, an elementary school with an enrollment of over 1,500 students, Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital has initiated a collaborative model for elementary school health. The program uses a liaison to coordinate services with existing neighborhood programs and clinical resources of the Hospital to serve children in need, particularly those with excessive absences, chronic illness or behavior problems. PS 128 is also the site for a collaborative effort between school staff, the Hospital and the Turn 2 Us Foundation founded by New York Yankee player Derek Jeter to promote a healthy lifestyle for youth at risk. The Turn 2 Us program seeks to enhance family literacy skills in immigrant families of students in kindergarten and first grade; expand mental health services available in the school; and encourage physical fitness and healthy lifestyles for third- and fourth- graders through an after-school program and family activities.
